Program details
Modular training is for welders who are not registered with SkilledTradesBC and track their technical training and practical work-based hours in a Welder Logbook. If you are a registered apprentice, check out the Welder Apprenticeship training program.
The modular path to Red Seal certification as a welder follows these steps:
Welder Foundation (formerly known as Level C)
Level B - students can write the inter-provincial exam after Level B to attain Red Seal certification in welding
Level A - provides an additional ticket in specialized metal welding

Tuition and fees for Level B
Tuition only: $1,866.56
Ancillary fees - College: $333.72
Ancillary fees - Student Association: $66.72
Health and Dental: $125.70
Total tuition: $2,392.7
Note: Students enrolled in any programs that are 16 weeks or longer are required to pay health and dental fees. If you have health and dental benefit coverage, you can opt-out of the program and fees by contacting the OCSU.
Textbooks for Level B
Welding Foundation Modules (if not already purchased): $305.75
Welding Level B package: $106.75
Note: 5% GST is not included in the price, and prices are subject to change. Textbooks are available at the OC Bookstore by calling 250-762-5445, ext. 4586, or ordering online.

clear lens face shield for grinding
leather welding gloves
CSA-approved steel toed leather work boots
safety glasses
tinted face shield for oxy-fuel welding and cutting
welding helmet
leather protective gear (overalls and jacket)
binder
pencils, pens, erasers
calculator to write the IP exam, preferably one of: Sharp EL-520W, EL-520X, EL-531X
government-issued picture ID is required to write the provincial and national exams (driver’s licence, photo ID or valid passport) - student card is not acceptable
Note: all safety equipment and clothing is required fir the first day of class.

ball peen hammer 2-10” crescent wrench

soapstone holder with soapstone 14” half round bastard with handle

center punch side cutters or mig pliers

You can supply the above tools yourself or you can purchase a set from the Welding Department (approximately $350). If you want to purchase your tools from the Welding Department, this can be done the first day of class. Should you decide to supply your own tools, the list provided is the minimum requirement. All tools on this list must be present for you to proceed with this program.
