Project details
Recent years have seen active collaboration led by Loughborough’s School of Science, together with other Schools across our campus, that has resulted in successful implementation of a variety of new approaches to key challenges within Forensic Science. These include:
• Fingerprint retrieval and access to additional biometric information from such prints.
• Tackling Heritage Crime in terms of building protection.
• Tackling wildlife crime and foodstuff fraud.
• Crime scene and evidential analysis through novel sampling techniques.
In order to continue advancing our capabilities we invite applications from potential PhD students interested in projects in these or closely related areas. This would provide the opportunity to work alongside co-supervisors from across the department of chemistry and would afford the student significant experience of cutting-edge technology associated with techniques such as mass spectrometry, and of interactions with a range on interested partners both within, and outside of, academia.
Loughborough University has an applied research culture. In REF 2021, 94% of the work submitted was judged to be top-rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We are a community based on mutual support and collaboration. Through our Doctoral College there are continual opportunities for building important research skills and networks among your peers and research academics.
