📖Program Curriculum
Project details Filtering dirt and/or other particles out of water by passing it through a porous membrane is not just crucial to healthy living but it is also involved in a huge range of engineering processes in the medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and chemical sectors. The optimal design of such filters typically relies on time-consuming and expensive experimental work.
In this project, you will use mathematical modelling to develop computer-based models of filters that will allow for the rapid changing of design parameters such as membrane permeability and fluid density to optimize new designs without having to manufacture physical prototypes, thus reducing the time and cost of experimental testing. The computational models you will develop will be highly efficient and accurate by using model order reduction methods (namely, proper generalized decomposition) and domain decomposition techniques.
