This program is exclusive to the network of Quebec universities. This program provides access to one of two cumulative master's programs, one in communication and digital media (1975) and the master's in communication in a management context (1974) . This program aims to develop in students the professional and intellectual skills needed to understand the social issues of communication and mediation in a constantly changing world. The student must demonstrate, through his skills and attitudes, mastery of the acquisition, understanding, analysis and synthesis of knowledge in the field of social communication and mediation, more particularly with regard to its ethical and social implications. All academic activities (excluding the essay) of the DESS are an integral part of the curriculum for the master's degree in literature (concentration in social communication). Consequently, when a student decides to continue his studies in the master's degree in letters (concentration in social communication), he sees the education of the DESS in social communication automatically recognized by the registrar of UQTR. Program Objectives The specific objectives focus mainly on the acquisition of the basic declarative, procedural and conditional knowledge required for the functions foreseen in the professional field in question. At the end of the program, the student will be able to: Orientation in philosophical, sociological, communicational, anthropological and legal literature to instrument questions related to contemporary issues of social communication. Understand the current importance for any practitioner to define an ethical posture aware of cultural, social and political issues. Characterize the issues and problems related to mediation practices between social actors involved in collective development projects (local, regional, national or international). Possess an in-depth reading of social reality from a social communication perspective. Acquire a synthetic and critical vision of the field of social communication in a context of mediation featuring different elements of the public sphere. Know the quantitative or qualitative research approach applied in needs assessment studies or market studies. Explore the intervention strategies necessary for the implementation of social mediation. The six-credit essay related to a Diploma of Specialized Graduate Studies constitutes work on a specific subject related to social communication.
