"I chose to study physio at Keele because of the atmosphere that was created and shared by everyone I met at my first open day. This is something that has continued through my 3 years at Keele. I have made some amazing friends who along with the staff at SAHP have supported me through the duration of my degree and helped to make a stressful 3 years some of the most enjoyable."

TEACHING LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT
Key elements of physiotherapy are taught over four years and we use a variety of learning and teaching methods depending on the subject matter and level of the module. You will be taught on campus at Keele University and in clinical environments and teaching is designed to integrate university learning and learning undertaken in practice settings.
You will develop your clinical skills in small groups depending on the subject matter. In practice settings you will work with designated practice educators and receive support from visiting tutors from the School.
In your programme you will sometimes be expected to role play and engage in simulated clinical scenarios with other students such as the practice and observation of practical skills in physical contact with other students. For some specific practices this may necessitate modification of dress - e.g. to shorts and t-shirt. These activities will be conducted in a professional safe respectful and culturally sensitive way under the supervision of academic staff according to a defined protocol.
Our teaching methods include:
Lectures - including interactive lectures and with invited external speakers
Practical work - allowing you to observe the application of or develop practical physiotherapy techniques under academic staff supervision.
Practice experience - to improve your clinical and professional skills
Small group workshops - working with other students on specific projects
Individual and group presentations - where you will research and present a topic
Student and tutor-led tutorials
Web based learning - using the Keele Virtual Learning Environment (KLE)
Independent study - required in each module some guided by tutors and some self-directed depending on the module.
Participate in inter-professional learning - groups made up of a range of other health and social care students.
ASSESSMENT
To track your progress through this integrated masters course we use a variety of methods to reflect the range of knowledge and skills you will develop including:

Reflective assignments which enable you to improve your reflective practice which is a fundamental skill used by all healthcare professionals

Practical examinations / Interactive Practical Assessment (IPA) examinations take place for modules involving teaching and learning of practical clinical skills so you can demonstrate the safe and effective application of these.
