This module aims to provide you with the academic skills and understanding to be successful in your undergraduate studies. Using evidence-based practice as a platform you'll develop the ability to search for and identify suitable literature begin to examine the quality of evidence and start to apply that knowledge to your clinical studies.
Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of the essential human anatomy and physiology required for paramedic practice. You'll study anatomical terminology major organ systems mechanisms of homeostatic control and the fundamental biosciences that underpin clinical practice.
Social Health and Behavioural Science

You'll study: concepts associated with health psychology; sociology of health & illness; health equity; social psychological & cultural influences affecting health; things that influence & impact on people's health and well-being; key sociological & psychological concepts to enable an understanding of health behaviours and health behaviour change.
Fundamental Urgent Care

You'll develop your knowledge and clinical skills to prepare for paramedic practice. You'll look at how to operate safely in the unscheduled and emergency care setting including assessment and management of conditions up to the level of an Associate Ambulance Practitioner. You'll spend time on frontline emergency ambulances with practice educators.
Fundamental Emergency Care

You'll develop your knowledge and clinical skills to prepare for paramedic practice. You'll study how to operate safely in the unscheduled and emergency care setting including assessment and management of conditions up to the level of an Associate Ambulance Practitioner. You'll spend time on frontline emergency ambulances with practice educators.

Medical Emergencies Trauma and Resuscitation

Building on modules studied at Level 4 you'll develop clinical paramedic skills and your ability to assess and manage a range of medical and trauma emergencies. You'll focus on how to deliver high-performance resuscitation and management of emergencies in the prehospital setting. Simulation and clinical skills practice will be a core component.
Applied Anatomy and Physiology

Building on the anatomy & physiology introduced at Level 4 you'll apply that knowledge to a broad range of conditions considering the pathophysiology and biologic basis for disease in adults and children. Case-based discussions & seminars will explore the aetiology and pathogenesis of a range of conditions & how they manifest across the age range.
Research Methods for Clinical Practice

You'll learn about quantitative and qualitative research approaches improvement methodology and critical analysis of literature. Healthcare practice can be defended and improved through the ability to appraise & incorporate the evidence-base into clinical practice. You'll develop a proposal which you'll implement for you dissertation at Level 6.
Pharmacology for Paramedic Practice

You'll develop your knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics in paramedic practice. You'll study: legislation & safe administration of medicines within the remit of a paramedic; the detailed mechanisms of drug action including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; how to confidently apply the law and medicines knowledge to patients in practice.
Paediatric and Maternity Care for Paramedics

This module gives you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and understanding gained on the Medical Emergencies Trauma and Resuscitation module with patients in clinical practice. It also includes taught content on complex patient groups (paediatrics and maternity) and facilitates learning in practice at complimentary placements in these areas.
Mental Health and End of Life Care for Paramedics

You'll have the chance to apply the knowledge and understanding gained on the Medical Emergencies Trauma and Resuscitation module with patients in clinical practice. Legal Ethical and Professional Issues in Paramedic Practice

You'll develop your knowledge of the legal ethical & professional issues in paramedic practice. You'll examine the relationship of law and medicine together with the interplay of medical ethics analyse the development of medical negligence and consent to medical treatment as well as international medical ethics issues arising from birth to death.
Leadership Mentoring and Education in Clinical Practice

This module offers an introduction to leadership mentoring and education in clinical settings including a critical exploration of effective leadership in clinical practice. As a soon-to-be registrant you'll study the foundation skills to mentor others in clinical practice including coaching and professional development.
Contemporary Paramedic Practice

You'll study how to operate as an effective newly qualified paramedic in a range of settings and the value of multi-professional working & how to make successful referrals to other professionals/clinical settings. You'll study non-emergency aspects of paramedic practice including minor illness & injuries and the management of long-term conditions.
Extended Independent Work

Elective Placement OR

This 20-credit elective placement module enables you to engage in a period of independent study in a relevant professional setting of your choice. The setting and the assessment methods will be negotiated with a supervisor to determine the best approach to knowledge and skills acquisition. You can spend up to 100 hours in the chosen setting.
