Design Research: Investigation on Adaptive Reuse
20.00
This module introduces you to the concepts and key contextual elements of adaptive reuse design. It enables you to demonstrate an understanding of how over time structures and existing buildings can be encouraged to evolve sustaining new uses and accommodating new users and how this is relevant for the safeguarding of our environment.
Design Studio 1: Existing Environment Investigation
20.00
This module introduces you to the analysis of a specific site/building/place in order to propose innovative modifications to it. You’ll be encouraged to study and examine the topography and tectonic of an existing site and understand the social and economic characteristics including structure materials organisation history and context.
Design Studio 2: Spatial Investigation
20.00
This module combines approaches from various disciplines for designing interiors buildings and their surroundings for sustained adaptive reuse. This design-based module puts into practice and integrates the theoretical basis and knowledge acquired within introductory modules. This module focuses on reuse and upgrading.
Advanced Material Technologies
20.00
This module will introduce fundamental principles and issues surrounding adaptive reuse practice such as material sourcing upcycle of old built fabric sustainability and waste heritage and conservation. The latest building regulations will be the subject of study and discussion and the final design output will need to be tested against regulat...
Adaptive Reuse Studio: Independent Design
60.00
This is a live brief design module that puts into practice and integrates the theoretical basis and knowledge acquired within prior modules. A fundamental aim of this module is to apply advanced creative design skills and research knowledge gained culminating in a design project. The project should address the key factors used for adaptive reuse ...
