📖Introduction
Radboud University is a private university that owes its origins to the Catholic emancipation movement of the early twentieth century. In keeping with this tradition, staff and students feel a commitment to one another, to society and to the world. Our focus is on caring for each other and the world around us. We remain committed to the empowerment of social and cultural minorities. We want to have an impact, and in this we are guided by both academic questions and societal challenges.
Founded in 1923, Radboud has a strong tradition of high-quality and internationally accredited education and research. Leading academics and excellent professors help you with everything you need at a research university ranked in the top 1% worldwide. Renowned for its green campus in the oldest city in the Netherlands, Radboud University counts over 20,000 students, with 1 in 9 students coming from abroad. Our personal style of teaching provides plenty of opportunities to work closely with lecturers and fellow students with a multidisciplinary approach and the flexibility to tailor programmes to your interests.
In this programme, you will learn to tackle problems in international water management on the basis of ecological, hydrological, and social-economic aspects. During your internships, you will be responsible for your own analysis, under the supervision of one of our top researchers.
The programme is partly taught at Radboud University and partly at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. This means that you will profit from the expertise at two universities and become familiar with different cultures and research approaches.

Study programme What is the best way to handle invasive species in a river ecosystem? Or, how do you protect a city like New Orleans from floods? In this double degree programme, you’ll learn to tackle these kinds of problems on the basis of ecological, hydrological and social-economic aspects. We focus on ecological solutions, which are often more effective than technical adjustments. Think of estuaries with seagrass fields breaking the waves instead of reinforcing dikes, or self-purification of drainage-basins, making dredging unnecessary.
Curriculum of Transnational ecosystem-based Water Management The double degree programme in Transnational ecosystem-based Water Management is partly taught at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and partly at Radboud University (RU). You will follow compulsory course modules at both universities, focus on a water management project, follow elective courses, and finish the programme with a Master's thesis.
