📖Program Curriculum

Year 1
Your studies will focus on key themes of understanding the nature of business including:

organisational forms
the impact of globalisation and global inequality
the shift to a low-carbon economy
the impact of technology and digital disruption
You will gain an insight into the practice of management by using examples of widely-used concepts and techniques in local businesses and the day-to-day role of managers. This will include guest lectures cases and recorded interviews developed in partnership with local organisations.

You will study Global Challenges for Business and The Business of Edinburgh which introduce key concepts of management and business including:

strategy
finance
marketing
management of people
Accounting
You will take an accounting course where you will:

examine the basic principles and underlying concepts of accounting
explore the ways in which accounting statements and financial information can be used to improve the quality of decision making
learn how accounting relates to the broader context of the strategic and operational aspects of business
Japanese
You will study Japanese language at beginner post-beginner or advanced level depending on your existing language skills. Courses will include kana writing (Japanese phonetic writing) and an introduction to some kanji (Japanese Characters).

Optional course
The first year also allows you the opportunity to study an optional course. This may be in business such as:

Psychological Well-being in Business
Thinking About Business
Planning for a Start-Up
Fundamentals of Programming for Business Applications
However you can choose options from other schools within the university (subject to availability and timetabling constraints). Examples include:

Year 2
You will broaden your knowledge of essential business subjects through the compulsory study of statistical analysis and data interpretation and international business.

Optional course
You can choose from optional courses in a range of disciplines such as:

business analytics
understanding and delivering public services
HR management
business economics
business simulation
Japanese
You will further develop your Japanese language skills and your understanding of Japanese society.

Year 3
As you progress to Honours level you will spend your third year abroad at a partner university or business school.

You will complete and pass a full year of examinable subjects. These subjects will align with what you would have studied in Edinburgh the majority of which will be in the International Business subject areas. You will also take an equivalent compulsory course in Strategic Management at the partner university.

Students studying International Business with Japanese will normally study international business courses taught in English at the partner university in Japan as well as further develop language skills.

You will start the preparation for your Dissertation (in Year 4) by submitting your Dissertation research proposal and you will be allocated a Dissertation Advisor.

Applying to study abroad is a competitive process. In order to be offered a place you will need a strong academic performance in Year 1 with a minimum first year average of 60%.

Year 4
Your Management Honours Dissertation is central to year 4. You will conduct an independent research project on a topic of your choosing that is closely linked to your degree programme.

Your dissertation will give you the opportunity to develop skills such as:

advanced project management
critical-thinking skills
cognitive skills
analytical skills
creativity
evaluative and written communication skills
developing building and presenting arguments to a wider audience
You will be allocated a Dissertation advisor who will offer advice and guidance throughout your Management Honours Dissertation. You can also attend Dissertation support sessions and hangouts where you can:

share your experiences
learn from each other
get timely advice from the dissertation team
You will choose at least three more specialist Honours courses in key areas of international business or one or two Honours courses in other subject areas.

Entry Requirements

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

The program is competitive, you need to have a high grades of Average A, 70%, or a high GPA.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
