📚About the Program

What changes would the information society bring? To begin with, what framework; spiritual, cognitive, or cultural, would information need be comprehended and propagated? What are the solutions to the social problems the information society inevitably poses? We, in Department of Human-Social Information Sciences, are striving to answer those questions in the form of interdisciplinary research and education. The members constituting our group are trained in wide range of subjects, including, cognitive psychology, philosophy, linguistics, sociology, media theory, regional sciences and civil engineering. Recently we have been engaged in reconstructive activities of the earthquake damage of 2011. In particular, our activities include recording and analysis of resident participation in the disaster affected area, opinion polls of the citizens of Sendai city, flows of the emergency goods, the traffic pattern of the post-disaster days. 🏫About Tohoku University

In 1911, Vice Minister of Education Masataro Sawayanagi, moved to Sendai to become Tohoku University’s first president. Sawayanagi firmly believed that academic research should be integrated with education. He also believed that a university should not discriminate based on class or gender. Following this principle, Tohoku University accepted graduates from technical and higher normal schools, and despite opposition from the government at that time, became Japan’s first university to admit female students in 1913. As of 2022, there are more than 1,700 international students at the university representing 90 different countries and regions. In total there are around 10,000 undergraduates, 4,000 master’s students and 2,600 doctoral students enrolled.

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

You need to have above average grades for the program. C average or above 55%.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
