Looking for a meaningful career? Do you care about older adults in your life and community? If so, then you want to be part of the dynamic and growing field of gerontology. Langara offers two programs in this field. DIPLOMA IN GERONTOLOGY (62 CREDITS) In the two-year Diploma in Gerontology program, students develop advanced skills and knowledge for positions related to program development, administration, and management. Graduates are prepared to provide innovative services to older adults that prevent social isolation, promote mental, physical, and emotional health, and support older adults to age in place while staying active in their communities. SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER (GERONTOLOGY) CERTIFICATE (31 CREDITS) In the one-year gerontology specialization program, students develop practical skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population of older adults. Students in the certificate program take the first two terms of the Diploma in Gerontology program and exit with the recognized credential of Social Service Worker. Graduates are prepared to work with a population of older persons from diverse backgrounds. HANDS-ON TRAINING Combining theory with practice, students gain specialized knowledge and skills to work with individuals, families, and communities to promote health and resilience throughout the aging process. These programs prepare graduates for employment in the field of gerontology within a wide range of service settings such as: health and wellness, education, recreation, community support, advocacy, residential, and palliative care. You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

The program is competitive, you need to have a high grades of Average A, 70%, or a high GPA.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
