If you are applying to English speaking universities such as UK, US or Australia, the personal statement is a bit different.<\/p>\n

Personal Statement to Universities in UK<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

You still want to write the same content:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Why you are strong
\n\u2013 Why you are interested in this university and program \u2013 your motivation
\n\u2013 What are your future goals<\/p>\n

You also need to:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Show that you understand the university and course, have done research into it.
\n\u2013 Show that you are going to be successful on the program.<\/p>\n

But you will also want to add more style and personality. It needs to be unique to you. You can also try to make it into an engaging story to get more points.<\/p>\n

Being succinct is even more important. Don\u2019t be boring.<\/p>\n

The beginning is very important and it needs to have a clear structure, with each paragraph matching with a certain point.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a good idea to review George Orwell\u2019s 6 Rules for Writing:<\/p>\n

  1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.<\/li>\n
  2. Never use a long word where a short one will do.<\/li>\n
  3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.<\/li>\n
  4. Never use the passive where you can use the active.<\/li>\n
  5. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.<\/li>\n
  6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It\u2019s a good idea to think of everything you want to write in it, and make notes covering those points.<\/p>\n
