Opportunity modules are a key part of the BNU curriculum. You’ll choose modules in both your first and second year from a broad selection in areas such as sustainability entrepreneurship creativity digital skills personal growth civic engagement health & wellbeing and employment. Preparing for Success: Knowledge and Creativity
The module will prepare you for successful progression into academic study while allowing you to learn about and prepare yourself for employment in the twenty-first century through inquiry-based learning problem solving and critical and creative thinking.
Preparing for Success: Self Development and Responsibility
This module enables you to begin developing the Bucks Graduate Attributes associated with leadership and self-development and social and ethical awareness and responsibility which are essential for success in higher education and in the world of work.
Inquiry Based Learning
Delivery of this module is based on ‘confirmation inquiry’ – a foundational level of inquiry geared for developing your understanding of key concepts and themes as well as basic methodologies and approaches to academic work relevant to your discipline. Ways of Learning About the Social World
The aim of the module is to introduce you to the social world. The module will introduce you to key themes concepts and approaches in the social sciences including criminology sociology and applied areas such as sociology of Health. It introduces standard disciplinary language definitions and ways of investigating society.

Policy and Politics in Public Health

This module will provide you with an overview of political social and economic circumstances influencing public health within the United Kingdom. Our module will enable you to explore policy development and gain an appreciation of the influence of policy drivers in the context of the public health agenda.
Introduction to Epidemiology

The aim of the module is to provide a grounding in the key concepts of epidemiology. It provides an overview of early studies in epidemiology and explores measures of morbidity and mortality and their significance in current society. Additionally it explores the role of public health surveillance and demographic profiling.
Society Culture and Community

This module introduces you to key concepts from sociological anthropological and psychosocial theory to explore aspects of social discrimination and the impact of this on specific communities and social groupings. The use of tools such as advocacy and anti-discriminatory practices will facilitate and promote greater understanding.
Foundations for Public Health Practice

This module provides a foundation for studying and later working in public health. The module aims to introduce you to the core components of public health practice and to facilitate the development of requisite knowledge and skills required in public health work settings.
Safeguarding: A Public Health Perspective

The module aims to provide you with an introduction to the concepts and principles of safeguarding from a public health perspective. The module explores population-level reduction of abuse and neglect. You will be provided with opportunities to explore both historical and international perspectives of safeguarding.

The aim of the module is to enable you to develop an understanding of health promotion. You will be given an opportunity to critically explore the key principles that underpin health and society. Models and approaches to health promotion will be examined and their application to practice settings investigated.
Collaborating for Success in Public Health

The aim of the module is to prepare you for working within public health organisations. You will learn the theory relating to leadership and develop knowledge and skills required for effective team working and collaborative practice.
Patterns Trends and Innovations

This module builds on learning from ‘Introduction to Epidemiology’ to deepen knowledge of epidemiological approaches in improving health and to facilitate application of knowledge in preparation for future public health practice. The learning outcomes are underpinned by UKPHR (2018) Public Health Practitioner Standards (standards 2 3 and 4).

This module will enable you to increase knowledge and understanding of mental health. You will have the opportunity to examine mental health. Underpinning frameworks and principles for mental health care will be identified and public health strategies for improving mental health and reducing related health inequalities will be explored.
Educating for Improved Health

This module aims to develop your as health educators. Building on knowledge of communication theories your will extend skills to learn how to engage with and communicate with groups. The module will include teaching and learning theory equipping your with the knowledge and confidence to deliver health education interventions.
Extended Independent Work

This module will give you a thorough understanding of the fundamental topics needed to manage projects within a complex and ever-changing environment. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management and gain the essential skills necessary to plan monitor control and deliver successful projects...

Global Public Health

The aim of the module is to enable you to develop an understanding of public health from a global perspective. You will be given an opportunity to explore international health concepts and critically appraise global health challenges. This module will also enable you to explore how to support populations who are struggling with poverty.

Entry Requirements

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

The program is competitive, you need to have a high grades of Average A, 70%, or a high GPA.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
