Developing the Midwife to Meet the Additional Needs of Women Newborns and Families

Systematic Examination of the Newborn

We’ll help you gain the theoretical knowledge you need to undertake a systematic examination of the newborn. Expanding your knowledge related to the advanced skill of the systematic examination of the newborn will promote continuity of care for women their newborns and families. We work to the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination standards.
Midwifery Practice 2

On placement you’ll develop the skills determined by the NMC standards of proficiencies for midwives (NMC 2019) and gain the practice learning expected for your second year. You’ll work alongside practice supervisors and assessors who’ll perform assessments in line with the NMC standards for learner supervision and assessment (NMC 2018).
Developing the Midwife to Meet the Additional Needs of Newborns and Families

This module prepares you to recognise anticipate and manage obstetric and emergencies. You’ll explore additional needs of women and their families gaining essential skills to provide first line management of obstetric emergencies. Preparing the Midwife as Scholar

On this module we will help prepare you for your service improvement project or a research proposal. You’ll revisit your knowledge and understanding of research methods critique research methodologies and justify potential topics/questions for your scholarly project. This will enable you to choose your topic and explore appropriate methodologies.
The Midwife as Scholar: Service Improvement Project or Research Proposal

This module is mostly independent learning as you develop a service improvement project or research proposal on a topic of your choice. We’ll support you with academic writing choice of literature and methodology. You’ll have access to seminars resources online and in the library to help you produce a project that you can apply to practice.
The Compassionate Midwife as the Coordinator of Care
