During your time on this programme you’ll create content for uwsnewsroom.com and your portfolio. You’ll get the opportunity to develop close ties with partner organisations as media creators and producers, including Ayrshire Women’s Hub, Ayr United, St Mirren FC and Ayr Rugby.
Year 3
Undertake a work placement in a news organisation and participate in news production classes, developing your understanding of journalistic ethics. If you pursue Sports Journalism you will study sports broadcasting and commentary.
Our placement partners include Clyde 1 (Bauer Media), Heart Radio (Global), Newsquest and the Scottish Sun with students also undertaking work experience at STV and BBC stations and in sports club media.
Year 4 (Honours)
Complete a dissertation on an aspect of journalism or sports journalism and its role in society. And undertake a major creative project, producing a range of multimedia portfolio-based work.
Learn a Language (optional)
This course also gives you the option of taking a language module, which can count towards your degree. These modules cover multiple languages and range from absolute beginner to near-native speaker level. The cost of your language module is included in the tuition fees. Find out more
Teaching & Assessment
Classes are taught at Ayr campus with students assessed via digital and reflective portfolios, presentations, essays and the creation of industry-standard broadcast and multimedia content.
