This one or two-year course offers entry at degree year level, building on your studies from your home institution. You will study English language and culture modules, choosing from various related subjects to increase your fluency and confidence in English and your knowledge of English-speaking culture.
Year 3
Over two trimesters, you will further refine your study of English language and learn about English-speaking culture.
Trimester 1
Advanced English Language 1, Cultures of the English-speaking World 1 and one option module.
Trimester 2
Advanced English Language 2, Cultures of the English-speaking World 2 and one option module
Year 4
Trimester 1
You will study English Proficiency 1, Dissertation 1 and one option module.
Trimester 2
You will study English Proficiency 2, Dissertation 2 and one option module.
Option modules include: Academic Writing, Analysing Discourse, Meaning and Language, Business English, Theory and Practice of English Language Teaching, or any other appropriate University module.
Teaching and Assessment
Classes develop languages skills through group discussions, presentations and reading and writing tasks. Lessons use a combination of the latest English language resources and authentic materials.
The maximum class size is 25 students. Classes are usually 3 hours in duration (e.g. 09001200) and, during this time, there will be a short break of approximately 15 minutes. The assessment varies from module to module, but it typically involves a combination of presentations, portfolios, written assignment and class tests.
