📖Program Curriculum

A candidate shall comply with all curriculum requirements and complete the courses with a total of 142 credits.

BUQS4026A – Construction Law: 17 Credits, NQF 8

The course aims to enable students to develop a detailed understanding of the legal and organizational framework within which construction contracts take place. This entails the legal and commercial processes of structuring, negotiating, recording and enforcing contracts and business deals in construction.

BUQS4027A – Construction Project Management: 17 Credits, NQF 8

This course enables learners to gain knowledge of the practical application of the relevant project management concepts with specific reference to construction projects.

BUQS4028A - Simulated Project: 17 Credits, NQF 8

This course aims to integrate the learning within the programme as well as prepare and develop learners to be construction project managers. Learners must demonstrate the ability to provide construction project management​ services using the profession’s rules under supervision based on a simulated real-life project.

BUQS4029A - Advanced Construction Project Management: 17 Credits, NQF 8

The course covers advanced techniques in construction management that are applied in the built environment. The students are acclimatized to the use of IT or software that integrates stakeholders in construction projects.

BUQS4030 – Advanced Building Science (CM): 17 Credits, NQF 8

The course introduces students to the nature of innovation, and innovative approaches to solutions, which are human-centred, in the various aspects of the built environment. It explores innovation in various aspects including sustainability, practice, technologies, management, design and processes. The main context used is the building environment, building services and engineering, but it extends to other contexts such as design, construction and facility management. It exposes students to the concepts and principles applied in areas such as lighting systems selection and design; IT and automation in buildings, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Digital twins, services coordination and installation; energy management, and advanced building performance simulation and analysis.

BUQS4031A– Research Report: 39 Credits, NQF 8

The purpose of Research report is to enable students to be competent in research methodology and undertaking research across a broad spectrum of topics related to the built environment and management and policies. To collect, analyse and interpret data and report research findings clearly.

CIVN4016A - Advanced Civil Engineering Theory (CM): 18 Credits, NQF 8

This course introduces students to geotechnical engineering and construction materials. Geotechnical engineering: Effective stresses, shear strength, compaction, seepage, lateral pressures, bearing capacity, and introduction to foundations. Construction materials: fundamentals of material behaviour: performance criteria; elastic stress-strain functions; creep, shrinkage and relaxation and fatigue; intermediate concrete technology: hydration chemistry; binder types and concrete durability.

A student shall also complete the following course to the satisfaction of the Senate:

BUQS1990A – Practical Training

This course requires students to source experiential training in a quantity surveying firm or Construction Company for at least two consecutive weeks during or before the winter vacation period. They observe the activities in the company that relates to the theories that they have learned in the classroom and may be given specific assignments by the company. The students must submit a journal and a report on their experience within two weeks of completion of practical training. The journal must be signed by the work mentor.

Entry Requirements

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

The program is competitive, you need to have a high grades of Average A, 70%, or a high GPA.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
