📖Program Curriculum

Concordia University offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree program in Performance Creation. This program is designed for students who have a passion for interdisciplinary performance and wish to explore the creative process of performance making. The program combines practical training, theoretical studies, and collaborative projects to develop students' artistic skills and critical thinking in performance creation. While the specific courses and requirements may vary, here is a general overview of what the Performance Creation program at Concordia University might include:

Performance Studies: Performance studies courses provide students with a theoretical and critical framework for understanding and analyzing various forms of performance. Students explore topics such as performance history, performance theory, performance art, contemporary performance practices, and the relationship between performance and society.

Creative Process: Courses on the creative process in performance focus on developing students' skills and approaches to generating original performance work. Students learn techniques for idea generation, improvisation, collaboration, and experimentation. These courses help students develop their artistic voice and explore their creative potential.

Acting and Physical Performance: Acting and physical performance courses help students develop their skills in embodiment, presence, vocal expression, movement, and characterization. Students explore different acting techniques, physical theater practices, and approaches to creating compelling performances. These courses enhance students' performance abilities and their understanding of the body as a tool for expression.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Interdisciplinary collaboration courses encourage students to work with artists from different disciplines to create multidisciplinary performances. Students collaborate with dancers, visual artists, musicians, and other performers to explore the intersections of different art forms and create innovative and dynamic performances.

Devising and Performance Creation: Devising and performance creation courses focus on the process of creating original performance works from concept to realization. Students engage in group projects and individual projects, exploring different methods of devising, scripting, staging, and directing performances. These courses allow students to apply their creative skills and develop their own performance projects.

Critical and Cultural Studies: Critical and cultural studies courses provide students with a broader understanding of performance within cultural, social, and political contexts. Students explore topics such as identity, representation, power dynamics, and social issues in performance. These courses foster critical thinking and help students situate their work within a larger cultural framework.

Performance Presentation: Throughout the program, students have opportunities to present their performance work in various contexts, including studio presentations, public performances, and collaborations with local arts organizations. These performance presentations allow students to showcase their work, receive feedback, and gain practical experience in the presentation of their creations.
