📚About the Program
Here at The University of Notre Dame Australia, we pride ourselves on creating job-ready graduates who are in great demand in the workforce and this is especially true of our Education double degrees. Our Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 years)/Bachelor of Science degree provides you with a qualification to work with young children in both childcare and school settings. This degree includes an extensive workplace component in both childcare centres and schools, amounting to 32 weeks over five years.
Have you always had a special interest in the care and education of young children? Can you imagine the joy that comes with helping a child’s learning and development? If so, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 Years)/Bachelor of Science is the ideal degree for you.
This highly-structured and intensive program qualifies you to work with children from birth to eight years, in both childcare and school settings. Designed to be completed over five years of full-time study, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 Years)/Bachelor of Science is a perfect combination of theory and practice. The Education component of the program covers traditional subjects such as English, Mathematics and the Humanities plus special early childhood education courses such as Play and Pedagogy. In addition, you will be required to undertake 32 weeks of practical experience in a range of childcare and classroom settings. A unique feature is that this practicum experience directly counts towards your degree.
As part of the Bachelor of Science component of the double degree you will study a set of core interdisciplinary Science courses including experimental design, maths, biology and chemistry. These courses provide the basis for strong skills in scientific investigation, including data collection and analysis, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and effective communication. These skills are highly sort after by employers and applicable to many workplaces both within and outside of the field of Science.
Building on these core Science courses, you will deepen your study of Science by selecting a Science Stream that matches your interests: Biology & Environment, Environment & Heritage, Human & Medical Science, or Multidisciplinary Science. Each Stream ensures in-depth knowledge and skill development through practical hands-on experience in the classroom, the laboratory, and in the field. This will prepare you well to inspire your young students and teach Science within an educational setting.
Please note: Education students in Western Australia must pass the national Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE). The test is administered externally by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). You must register and pay for the test.
