📖Introduction
Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) is Ireland's largest and most comprehensive higher education institution. Formed by the merger of three renowned institutes of technology, TU Dublin offers a wide range of programs in various disciplines including engineering, science, business, arts, humanities, and more. With a strong focus on innovation and industry collaboration, TU Dublin provides students with a vibrant and supportive learning environment. The university prides itself on delivering education that is practice-based, industry-relevant, and globally connected, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
Geospatial Surveying or geomatics is all about collecting, processing and managing locational (or spatial) information in order to produce maps, construction drawings and models. The professional responsible for this is a geomatics surveyor. They model, analyse and manage information gathered from many sources, using satellites, drones, laser scanners, aerial cameras and advanced surveying and computing.
This expertise opens up lots of exciting career opportunities at home and abroad.
This programme will educate you in the three fields of activity of Geospatial Surveying:
M1: Measurement for mapping;
M2: Modelling using GIS (Geographical Information Science) and BIM (Building Information Modelling) and
M3: Management of geospatial data
M1: Measurement for mapping involves collecting data relating to the Earth (spatial data). Instruments such as GPS receivers, terrestrial airborne (including drones) and spaceborne cameras and scanners, are used to collect data that is then processed to create digital maps and 3D models of our landscape for development, monitoring and planning.
M2: Modelling using GIS (Geographical Information Science) and BIM (Building Information Modelling) lets us visualise, question, analyse and interpret data to understand relationships, patterns and trends that enable better decisions about location to be made. This involves 3D modelling, computer visualisation, spatial analysis in GIS and BIM and delivery of the results and products (including location-based services) to the client.
M3: Management of geospatial data deals with the four main land administration systems: Land Value for Taxation, Land Tenure for Ownership of Property, Land Use for Planning, and Land Development for Construction and Conservation.
