📚About the Program
Environmental geography program website: www.uqtr.ca/geo
Geographers are specialists in the territory . They have unique expertise that enables them to analyze and manage both the natural environments on the surface of the globe and the human societies that
interact with these ecosystems. They can, for example, be an environmental consultant, cartographer or urban planner in a city, responsible for the management of waterways in a municipality, director of an organization dedicated to the protection of the environment or even a professional in geomatics and in remote sensing.
Geographers use specialized applicationsallowing to analyze the earth's surface using satellite images, to manage large amounts of data and to map the territory in order to better understand it and manage it well. Geographers are also called upon to work in the field , whether to carry out environmental surveys, carry out a diagnosis, verify compliance with regulations or carry out a survey of a given population. Geomatics laboratories
are at the heart of geographers' learning by allowing them to acquire unique expertise related to data management, cartography, geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing. The paid internship, produced at the end of the second year of study, allows geographers to put their training into practice and gives an overview of the realities of the job market.
The optional and complementary courses make it possible to perfect the training of geographers according to their interests. They can, for example, complete their training in environmental sciences, ecology or another discipline.
Finally, the program includes three courses carried out in the field , including an elective course in the Canadian Rockies.
Program Objectives
The environmental geography program aims to train professional geographers who will have the necessary skills to work in the fields of environmental sciences, geomatics, natural resource management and land use planning. The program thus gives direct access to the labor market. Students who wish to do so can also pursue graduate studies, either with a master's degree in environmental sciences at UQTR, or in another master's program in geography or a related discipline at another Canadian university or at the foreign.
